Hustle & Flow (2005)

Ah, the first movie to give real cinematic beauty and quality to rap culture.  Not many knew the struggle was real until this pimp-turned-hot rapper tale was unleashed on the independent masses.  And, for some reason, made Terrence Howard insane.

DJay (Howard) is a down on his luck pimp and minor drug dealer who sees his life going nowhere, when along comes a platinum selling rapper, Skinny Black (Ludacris), that DJay used to rap with back in the day.  This sets DJay on a course to record a demo and follow his dream.

An amazing cast that includes Anthony Anderson, DJ Qualls, Isaac Hayes, and the emergence of the immensely beautiful and talented Taraji P. Henson.  And who can forget Three 6 Mafia's Oscar-winning eardictive tune "It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp"?  The song that made me hate white people even more than before.  But, it's still a great song and the only thing enjoyable about 2005's Oscars.

What Makes This Movie Cool:  Terrence Howard.

We knew his face.  Some even knew he had greatness in him.  This showed it to the world.  DJay is aggressive, sensitive, hungry, intelligent, and beaming with an unhinged magnetism that's far too real to be Hollywood.

We're not trying to be cool.  It just ended up that way.
